About Us

The Collaborative Professionals of Washington (CPW) is a non-profit association of independent professionals from the fields of law, mental health, and finance.

What We Do

Collaborative Practice is fundamentally a new model for resolving legal disputes.

Collaborative Practice is a way to resolve disputes outside of court, with the help of a team of trained professionals: each person's own Collaborative attorney, a neutral financial professional, and a Collaborative coach. Everyone agrees up front to work together toward an agreement rather than going to court. Participants share all relevant information openly, so no one has to dig for evidence. The focus stays on solving problems, not on what is wrong with the other person, and the professionals and participants work as one team to get there. Collaborative Practice can be used in many types of disputes, but it is most often used in divorce and family law.

Collaborative Professionals of Washington is dedicated to changing the adversarial approach to divorce and other legal matters.

Divorce is hard, and no process can take away all the pain. But the way you divorce matters. Some cases do need court, but its adversarial process can deepen conflict and leave lasting hostility. For many families, Collaborative Practice offers a better path: with support from trained professionals, each person is heard, their needs are considered, and the family can move forward. For parents, that can mean a stronger footing for working together in the years ahead.
